More students join fight against VTU’s carry-over policy
Final verdict on the plea made by 100 students delayed as others file similar petitions before the High Court With the High Court adjourning the hearing on a plea challenging the varsity’s carry-over system on Thursday, the ongoing tussle between BE students and administration of the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is set to continue. After the case came up for hearing, lawyers of a few more students who filed similar petitions against the university approached the High Court, asking that all the pleas be clubbed and heard together. Hence the hundred-odd students, who were given an interim order by the High Court granting them admission to the next semesters of their courses, will now have to wait for the final verdict. VTU vice-chancellor Dr H Maheshappa, however, categorically stated that unless the High Court specified that the order would be applicable to all the 19,000 students who will be affected, it will not be made a general rule.
“We are presenting our argument against this order. For students who are nor part of this petition, on which the interim order has been issued, there will be no admissions,” he said.
The university argues that the policy not to allow students with backlogs of more than four subjects to move to the next semester is to produce quality engineers. “The focus of the students should be on studying and excelling in exams. If they do, this rule will not seem insurmountable,” said Maheshappa.
But, with the courses already begun, students who have not been part of this petition are having a harrowing time. Most students claim that their only option is to approach the High Court with similar petitions.
However, caution is also in the air because of preceding cases. Recently, engineering diploma students also approached the High Court to be allowed to have a carry-over system for all eight subjects. There are at least 12 similar petitions against the VTU itself which is yet to be decided upon and the students are in the dark about the fate of this academic year.
Even those 100 students who have been given the interim order by the High Court are still waging their own battle as their colleges have said that the admissions cannot be done until the VTU gives them a direct order in this regard.
When asked about the colleges’ stand, Maheshappa said, “The VTU has no problem if the colleges give admission to those hundred students who were part of the petition on which the interim order has been issued. However, the university is still presenting its side of the case and arguments against this order are still on. So the VTU will not issue an official order to the colleges till the final verdict is delivered.”
While the legal battles are being fought, students continue to be uncertain about their future.
Don’t judge students by their marks. Many students have more technical knowledge than the bookworms. High Court, please give justice for all. If this interim order does not apply to all 19,000 students, I will surely commit suicide and VTU will be responsible for it. Let us fight for our future.

The back-year concept does not exist in other universities in India or anywhere else in the worldl!!!! We request VTU to abolish this concept because it does not really serve the purpose of creating quality engineers. It only creates more and more stress and forces us to learn our modules just for the sake of passing an exam.

We appreciate the V-C’s point about producing quality engineers. In that case, why don’t they ensure that every college has well-qualified and quality lecturers and sufficient coaching is provided to produce quality students rather than having a system that penalises them.

I don’t understand why VC sir is emphasizing on producing quality engineer…. every one should get a fair chance. Can any one tell me what’s the VALUE of the degree will be after student gets an BLACK SPOT of an YEAR-BACK and whats the VALUE will remain after passing out from so called TOP UNIVERSITY after having an YEAR BACK!
Moreover there is no specific clarification about the EVALUATION system… The subjects we thought that we’ll pass – we fail in that! So for such Evaluation system Why students has to suffer .. that too for an YEaR! This has to come to an END!

I have failed in only one subject from 4h sem and I have cleared all 5th sem and 6th sem subjects with an SC and an FC. But I can’t be promoted to 7th sem just because of 1 subject. I have a year back just for 1 subject. Is this the way to produce so called “quality engineers” ?? By sending students into depression state for a whole year?
franly speakin students shouldnt have approache HC …. before admissions to colleges under VTU they have signed taht they abide by rules of VTU … if they r telli other universities dont have this system they should have joined to that universities oly .. its on their own they have joined VTU and cannot point out wrong in VTU…. speakin in support to students ya this system should be lifted … but VTU will lose its existance … none of the students ill be serious abt their studies … now due to this system students do study fearin of year backs and other issues .. this this system is lifted there is nothi left but neglect….
Why does this VTU thin they are producing quality engineers with this stupid yr back system? Have the seen the quality of education and teacher they have provided in VTU colleges? The students nor the faculties have no practical knowledge at all. All they know is what is written in the so called VTU text books. All are nothing but book worms.
Please, if you want quality engg, change your approach and train the faculties. Lift this year back and encourage students to take up engineering as a serious profession.

Let me tell you some thing here Mr. VC is saying that they will loose the quality engg but let me clear on this for you MR VC that already in bangalore there are more than 40000 engg student who are having a degree with first class or FCD or SC but still they have no job and still they are not getting it. and I just dont under stand that which kind of evaluater you have hired in your university that if a student doesnt pass that he/she fills the revaluation form with Photo copy than you increses some mark than again to pass that subject student apply challenge revaluation with 5000 and still you increses some more mark what the hell is this system about that to clear paper we have to invest a lot money Mr VC the (450+500+5000 +180) this money doesent comes for free even though what if your child would have been in any one of our 19000 student and would have been suffering from this VTU YB truma Ans for this would you be still telling to your Son/ daughter that child our university produces the quality engg so you better study and clear the paper would you make your brat to suffer like this …… also let me tell you MR VC that the great minds you may find some of these 19000 student who may change the face of the world by doing some great invention I hope you go in past and look for the profile of Albert Einstein,thomos alba edition ,Bill gates,steve job,So I request on behalf of 19000 Student Please dont try to test their patience let them go through and get the degree..

Actually these rules should be made in future to produce quality engineers:
1.A student can only get admission to 3rd sem if he passes all the subject of 1st sem..and for 4th sem he shd clear both 1st and 2nd sem
2. for the admission of 5th sem he shd be cleared 1,2,3rd sem like wise till 8th sem.
3.attendance shd me minimun of 90%
4.internals marks shd be take by average of three internals…
ENGINEERING WILL HAVE SOME VALUE….
ELSE ENGINEERS WILL BE MORE THAN STREET DOGS….

I applied for challenge revaluation and my marks got increased to 37 , but due to low internal marks of 9 i have got an Yearback. Is there any procedure to increase my internal marks or supplimentary exam.
Please inform me as soon as possible as i am very much disgraced by this critical back system of VTU.

myself arjun have a request to all my VTU friends saying that there is a need of moral support..which we are indeed to find it..so my humble request is to make this as an national issue saying that v the vtu students are enough to get support..for which we fighting aganist are destiny..and more over we people are doing nothing other then listening to bull shits..of what say all of us should wake up..and should fight for the justice…..so my idea is to take support either from reputated ngo’s nor media..datzz the only way..we people can manage are place’s….

I’m not an engineering student. I’m doing MBA under VTU.
As im frm science bg, 1st sem I got 2 backs (practical) & 2nd sem I got 4 backs (3 theory & 1 practical). I put for challenge revaluation for 3 subjects (2 theory, 1 practical subject of 1st sem that I wrote again ) cause I was confident in clearing those. But only 1 subject got cleared unfortunately. I had to clear 2 subjects out of 6 to get eligibility back to continue to 2nd yr. Now I got an yr back frm 1 subject in this 2 yrs MBA program. The bad thing is , I payed the whole damn fees of this university + college, I.e, 1,36,000 which they asked us to pay before the 2nd SEM results were announced & which theyr not gona refund even a single penny back . Now I don’t wana continue this MBA , cause I’m very much frustrated. They’re not letting me to attend college ofcourse. But I have no choice now but to wait for another year & complete it , cause my parents payed their hard earned money which the university & college people took it out of their cleverness !
If the VTU allows carryover system as soon as possible, that would really change my life. !
I just wana complete this course ones for all. Later lemme clear all the subjects man. ! This really helps all the students. ! Y on earth this VTU is so cruel my god. !

i have only one critical subject in 3rd sem ……for that i m loosing my 1 year
i have a record in vtu examination that in every sem i have 1 sub back and i applied for revaluation no change in marks but in challenge revaluation i got more than 17 marks…….
I need to file a complain in court against vtu…regarding my full fee refund and mental harassment. I had one back paper and I applied for photocopy and Revaluation but no change of marks
Although there was hard evidence in my photocopy that my paper was wrongfully corrected and in many questions which were not only attempted but were right to were marked as NA(not available).
So I applied for Challenge revaluation and my Marks were increased by 33 ( i.e from 21 to 54).So According to University rules I will have a refund of 3000/- but I have already paid them 5900/-.
My point is they are making money at the cost of students career.Why are Students repeatedly paying for the errors that are clearly committed by the University??

this is bullshit in the meanest way applicable…. the system itself is based on bookish knowledge and doesnt give a shit towards any practical aspect, other than these labs.
