The Bill provides provisions to maintain disciplinary and controlling measures against erring vice-chancellors and other staff of the university. Only judges of the high court or Supreme Court will probe allegations against a VC. An amendment ensures the chancellor must mandatorily act in accordance with the advice of the government after considering the probe report.
Present VC H Maheshappa faces allegations of providing false information while applying for the VC’s post. But there is no provision in the Act to take disciplinary action. With this amendment, the bill will go to the Upper House for approval.
